Across The Tracks and Through The Looking Glass

I’m late posting this news as I’ve been rather busy on stuff…….

…….so I only just found out that my outline for my Elate tumbling stone blockbuster on Brick Lane got published in the brilliant ‘London Blackbook ‘, wahey!

London Blackbook features “194 pages jam packed full of sketches, outlines and characters from 200 of London’s most diverse and influentual graffiti artists from the last 3 decades.”  shucks,  I’m very honoured!

RJ Rushmore from international Street Art blog  Vandalog blogged this piece (still live) as  “my all time favorite piece of graffiti or street art on Brick Lane”   …. crikey!!! High praise indeed considering the countless works by  superstar street artists  that preceded it.

I’m humbled for my original drawing to get published in amongst the work of the real legends, pioneers and heroes of the London graffiti scene!! Cheers Blackbook people!

The spirit and brotherhood  of Hip Hop and Graffiti lives on and gains momentum in London in 2010. Thanks to Chrome and Black for organising a wicked Jam in the Leake Street tunnel for real graffiti writers….“The Battle of Waterloo”…

Although it was a crew battle the rivalry was friendly and lots of people, myself included just down purely to hook up with old pals and maybe stick a little something up…I love to paint  Vaughn Bode influenced characters as has been done in graffiti since the mid-‘70s; this jam provided the perfect excuse.

I advise anyone with even the most remote interest in graffiti to collect and read books of his work.

A new art supplies store has recently opened and is rapidly becoming very well established in East London’s Bethnal Green Road, near the top of Brick Lane, the heart of Graff-land! Its opposite the 90 meter graffiti wall. With the Rarekind gallery downstairs exhibiting work by original first generation graffiti artists it really is worth a trip. 

Specialising in the best spray-paint and markers available they carry a full range of Molotov paints markers and inks including the classic Belton range in the full spectrum of colours. They also carry the new mtn94 range, a staggering array of markers from minis through to ultrawides and mops, unbuffable inks in the full spectrum of colours, caps of all descriptions from needle to superfat, magazines, books and accessories and claim to be the cheapest in London.

I was invited in to paint a small piece of this monster wall by Aks, graffiti artist and the events

co-ordinator. Situated between Shoreditch high street and Brick Lane and opposite the new Chrome and Black shop with the Rarekind Gallery downstairs, this is London’s graffiti central. In the next street is Sclater Street Hall of Fame.

This is now East London’s most visible and longest graffiti wall and is at the heart of the most graffitied area in the country. The wall is a youth project organised by Richmix for young people to learn graffiti with experts and professionals such as the legendary Prime, a face I Iast saw at the Covent Garden ‘writers bench’ in around ‘89.
